Lucid Dreaming and OBE Discussion Board

CBC Radio had an interesting topic on Sleep Paralysis today.
It was discussed more in the context of a medical dis-order, or nightmare...
Too bad they didn't have the insights of OBE from here!

Yea this old hag thing is interesting...

I used to have dreams and sleep paralysis when I was a kid and saw the old hag sitting in a chair near the foot of my bed... No one told me about it so why did I see her?

And just to make things more interesting my mum also experienced sleep paralysis as a young girl and saw the old hag sitting on the foot of her bed (without being told either).

This is just more proof that during sleep paralysis the entities we see may not be a mind creation. Either that or everyone has a secret phobia of old lady's...

Hmm,I've never seen an old hag but I've run into some other freaky characters that I think could be related to the same general phenomenon,what ever it really is.

In some of the new age,astral projection and occult writing,they sometimes talk about 'gate keepers' who sort of 'test your mettle'.I think this might go along with the whole old hag thing..I'm not saying there is really an old hag,but there is  something going on in the psyche here.I'd guess that the police that sometimes show up for me and others could be related...

Interesting that you never heard of this before it happened to you.Yeah,either there is some Jungian collective psyche, unus mundus thing; or many of us evolved old hag producing genes-neurons,however that might work....

The interesting this about this old lady is that she is seen by many people who don't actually hear about her.

My first experience was when I was 5 years old and I couldn't move in bed. I looked forward and saw her there and felt relieved I wasn't alone and tried to speak to her but couldn't get sound to come out.

"stop your winning" she said and told me to forcefully sit up slowly. I was successful and she was busy knitting on the chair. I found myself heavy and found it difficult to move around. She didn't seem to care and continuously to me to shut up. I heard something under my bed and then after putting my foot on the ground a crocodile started biting my leg. I was screaming in pain and asking her to help me but she said "yea yea just deal with it" and continued knitting.

There was a followup show, where CBC covered some responses to the original show.
One interesting response came from a woman who had quite a number of scary visits from the "old hag" through her life, and decided to confront the old hag - telling her to go away and stay away, and she never had any more visits from her!

I had something kinda related happen a few years ago.

I OBEd into this nonfamiliar cluttered room.My goal was one that was agreed upon by members of a weekly lucid dream teleconference group with Robert Waggoner.It was to seek out a 'gift' for the group.As I headed to another room to use the technique for finding objects(didn't call it that back then) I noticed this green witch starring at me on a rocking chair-like the one from the wizard of oz. (which scared the shit out of me as a small kid)

I commanded her fly away up through the ceiling but she didn't move.Her stare became deeper,but I continued.Finally she stood up and melted into this sort of skinless hairless ghoul like something from a zombie video game.He silently walked slowly away.Curious,I asked him, "where are you going?" Here's the weird thing,he said "TO FIND YOU!" Thinking that was random and weird I carried out my goal.

Well,a few days later in a regular dream,this witch was back and attacking me somehow.I woke with the memory of her angry face near me as she did something to me but I don't know what.I never saw any thing like this again after,but the thing did what it said it would do! It 'found' me later!
