First... what are you afraid of happening? You mention being scared and afraid, but you don't mention what the source is.
Can you project while walking? Well, I'm not really one to say that anything is impossible. Just improbable. You would have to learn to focus your attention away from this physical while doing something physical, such as walking. That actually sounds kind of dangerous...
What could have happened if you allowed your awareness to "expand"? Who knows really... why not find out? It's not like you're going to die or something.
If I were you I would resume the mediation first and try to extend/confront the experience. I don't believe this can be dangerous but it could be very beneficial.
If you can see your body during meditation then this is similar to what you can do during OBE. So you might meet those fears again during dreaming. Keep in mind that the meditation is safer (for your mind) then conscious dreaming, because you have full control (during the dream you are more driven by subconscious). In some rare cases lucid dream can become very scary, especially when you want to wake up and can't (it happened to me twice, long time ago, I panicked and couldn't wake up until I confronted my fear).
"Question? What could have happen if I left the awareness expansion carry on (specially while walking)? "
I know at least one person who claimed to project while driving and would return to her body as she pulled into the driveway of her house. I think your intent and ability in this matter trumps the opinion of others.
I too get the warm flush running from the feet up through the entire body. I get this in meditation and also during specific 'mental exercises' that I do. This warm wave has also replaced the "vibrations" that I used to get just before going OBE.
Not all people hear this but many do. It has been reported to doctors enough for it to have a medical term, Tinnitus. And of course they even have a pill for it if the patient really wants it to go away.
I have heard it all my life and like you, it does not bother me. I have used it more than once to project. It can help with the "listening in" method. For me, a different tone from the normal ringing is heard and then one can use that transition to enter the phase.
The Sound of the violin is one of the Higher Sounds from the eternal realms according to some Consciousness Schools in the Kashmir region.
Many, many people meditate for decades and never tune to this vibration. Consider yourself fortunate.
Focusing on this sound and allowing oneself to become immersed in it is a great way to project.

Listening in
Testing Individual Effectiveness. Immediately after
waking from sleep, remain motionless, eyes closed. Try to
listen to noise in your head. Do this for 3 to 5 seconds
without moving and without opening the eyes. If nothing
happens during this period of time, switch to another
technique. If any sounds like buzzing, humming, raving,
hissing, whistling, tinkling, or melodies occur, listen
attentively. With results, the sound will increase in volume.
Listen in as long as there is some dynamism in the volume
of the sound. When the sound stops, or the noise becomes
loud enough, a separation technique may be attempted.
Sometimes, the noise itself throws one into the phase while
listening. At a certain stage, sounds may be extremely loud
and have even been described as comparable to the roar of
a jet-engine.
The action of listening in consists of actively and
attentively exploring a sound, the whole of its tonality and
range, and how it reacts to the listener.
There is an optional technique known as forced
listening in, where it is simply necessary to strongly want to
hear noise, and meanwhile make intuitive internal efforts,
which, as a rule, are correct. Performed correctly, forced
sounds will intensify the same way as those perceived with
the standard listening in technique.

Training. In order to practice listening in, lie down in

in the head. These attempts are usually crowned with
success within several minutes of trying, and one starts to
