Hi Vadd and welcome to the forum
You have just made the same mistake I made on my first day... Lol it's nothing to worry about so don't feel silly like I did.
Read the guidebook very carefully and you will understand that when using indirect techniques you must cycle techniques. You have only chosen 1. The idea is you cycle 2-3 techniques 4 times. Try each technique for 5 seconds and if nothing happens move on to the next. Be sure to try a separation technique upon awakening (roll out/get up/levitate)
Last of all make sure you have a plan of action. You may find yourself in the early stages of practise having non-lucid dreams about the phase rather than truly experiencing the phase. If you have a plan of action which you complete in the phase then you can be almost certain you were conscious.
Make sure your plan of action is interesting as this will increase your desire for entering the phase. For example choose something such as translocating(teleporting) to a populated city and using your mind to destroy and create buildings. Maybe ride a lamborgini down the road at 200mph. Or even travel though time and check out the history of the city or it's amazing future.
When I was in your position just under 3 months ago I felt like I was never going to enter the phase. But look at me now...
I have had many great adventures including some scary ones and have even become stuck in the phase unable to wake myself for hours. I have walked through walls, gone flying and mentally caused the sun to rise. I have entered the phase through both dream concoiousness and even visualizing while awake. The phase is an amazing limitless photorealistic environment just waiting for you to explore it. It's as real as real life but you can change it at will to your liking.
If you want to know how I got where I am now you can check out my book "Entering the phase - A 17 years olds journey" it lists day by day( including day 1 when I made the same mistake as you ) of how I slowly started to explore the phase. If your interested I recommend you check out the first post of my blog:

Read the experience snippets and then read the corresponding day in my downloadable eBook if you find the snippet interesting. But don't stop there... I am not the only great phaser here... Check out the following people:
Luna
Summerlander
Papus
Dreamsrock
Wii
... Ect
There will never be a point where there is nothing to read about the phase.
I wish you the best of luck on your journey
