Binaural Beats - OBE side effect

Post by robvann »

I discovered "Binaural Beats" about a month ago, but think I just figured out they may have a NEGATIVE side effect on OBE?
First, for those of you who don't know what Binaural Beats are: Using headphones you can listen to special tones that help modify brain waves to push them in the direction of Sleep or other.  i.e. Alpha, Theta, Delta waves etc. (google it or read on Wikipedia)
I was VERY IMPRESSED when I installed a free app on my iPhone that used this technique because it had a "headache killer" button that made my mild headache go away in about 10 seconds!!!
Anyway, I have been having trouble getting back on course with my OBE's because I was not able to "wake up" into the phase state after the 4am alarm wakeup.
Today after reviewing the graphs of my sleep state, I realized that I sleep much more deeply when I use the Binaural beats that promote deep sleep, before I go to bed at night.
Duuuhhhh,
I just realized today that deep sleep and OBE are kind of mutually exclusive...
So, Binaural Beats are cool, but in some ways they are like taking a sleeping pill before going to bed.  Use when appropriate

I used Monroe OBE Binaural beat, I use it when I cant sleep in the middle of the night or if my wife is snoring, I dont listen to it the whole entire hour, I get bored. I usually listen for half an hour take off the headphones and go to sleep and amazingly I get into an OBE that way.

Last night I couldn't sleep I used Monroe tape three for half an hour took the headphones off went to sleep had a full fledge OBE and was abducted by aliens, you can read it in the general discussion it was amazing.

I am still experimenting with the binaural beats.

Interesting.  Do you know what frequency it operates at?
e.g. Delta, Theta...

I researched it on the Monroe institute, and they use Delta for Sleep Beta for tearning but they dont mentionned OBE so I will assume that it is Theta.

There is extensive discussion about this over on the My Big Toe boards.  It seems to be generally agreed that the good thing about the binaural BFOs is that they can pretty dramatically introduce someone previously unfamiliar to altered states of consciousness in a stable, reliable (repeatable) fashion.  A drawback is that each wave form tends to lock you in to that particular state... so the idea is to use them as training wheels, so to speak, ...become familiar with the new realm and then learn to go there without the mechanical support.  Your heavy sleep on that one occasion was probably related to your needing sleep. Also please note that just because you don't remember events of consequence during heavy' dreamless' sleep does NOT mean that they do not occur.

There is a lot of free and/or low cost software out there for trying different frequencies and frequency combinations ... what each person reponds to can be slightly different and pre-set tone levels may be just a little off for you ... a slight adjustment may prove to have profound results.  Tom, over on that other board ( he and a friend of his actually developed the BFO / brainwave altering technology back in the '60's) has mentioned that what seemed to work for the Theta range brainwave target (which apparently is OBE related) was 3.78 heartz, if I recall.  Just crating a 3.78 hz difference in the two channels may not be as effective as starting up in the middling alpha ... say 16hz, and working it gradually down to your 3.78.... stay there for a spell and then resurface back up to 16-20 hz.  There is a lot of literature out there on it.

tony=my experience using binaural beats denies such possibility. on the contrary binaural beats, 4hz, 369hz. have helped me getting stable and ready for the phase.
