Feel free to talk about anything not related to lucid dreaming and out-of-body travel

Undercover Hover

Post by Th3TruthizInThere »

I would like to hear back from people that are practicing the phase, but keeping that practice secret from their spouse, parents, children, etc. I have kept these activities completely to myself because in my upbringing, my parents have heard horror stories about how people have dabbled in OBEs and then died in the process because they couldn't get back to their bodies. My wife would totally freak if she knew what I was doing, because she finds a comfort in the tradition of our religious affiliation and if anything ever gets introduced to shake that faith, her anxiety kicks into overdrive. I have no desire to deal with that- been there, done that. I suppose for contrast it might be good to hear from some people who are completely open and honest about this too. Happy Flying!  8)

Would it help if you told them that you have wake-initiated lucid dreams and that there is no harm in having them whatsoever?  Very few people may have died in sleep paralysis but not because this one killed them.  Those unfortunate people already had underlying health problems.  Sleep paralysis always occurs whether we become aware of it or not.  It serves more as a protective 'mechanism' than anything else as it prevents us from physically acting out our dreams.

About the horror stories where people die because they can't get back to their bodies... if they bring that up, tell them they are just stories with no real basis.  No one can know whether the people that died were in the phase at the time and were having trouble getting back to their bodies.  That is only an assumption.  Secondly, living life in fear isn't a good way to live at all.

I've never been in your position as I've pretty much told everyone close to me what I do with words, art and literature.  I've pretty much put it out there.  I know you wanted someone in the same situation but I thought I'd give you my opinion.

My mother believes in God, spirits and an afterlife.  She is a church-goer too.  At first she was concerned that I might be taken by demons in the phase.  I simply told her demons cease to be when I deny their existence in my mind or regard them as nothing but illusions.  I've also pointed out the fallacy in the belief that if you avoid something because you think it's a sin then that is your ticket to heaven.  How can someone be deserving of a heaven if their actions are based on a fear of hell?

Note that I have nothing against religious beliefs and completely respect them.  I just think people in general should focus more on taking risks, facing their problems and fears and having fun.  Hell, I know of a possible reality where I could get mugged and stabbed if I turn the corner on the way to the shops - it still doesn't stop me from going.

Thanks for the response Summerlander. No, I will continue to keep things on the down-low. One of the reasons she would freak out is because our religious affiliation would openly object to such practices, and she is deeply immersed in our religion, while I have withdrawn from it significantly in secret. I feel I need to stay connected to it, but for the purpose of being in a position where I can help others who may be put in a bad position in the near future. With my deepest desire to be honest, it is not an easy thing for me to be deliberately dishonest in order to position myself to help others in the cause of love, caring, and true freedom. Have you seen "Schindler's List"? It is kind of that mentality that I have to adapt to.

OMG, you should have seen her freak over wanting to study the buddhist  method of Big Mind. She is all like- "I feel so dark about this- you are turning Buddhist!!!" Yeah, no thanks- there is definitely a method to my madness. Anyway, Happy Flying!!!  8)

I understand.  Sometimes it is easier to play a role than to emit the truth that is obviously so hard to take for those who have held on to certain beliefs and values for so long.

Btw, it is funny of you to mention Schindler's List.  Me and my wife having been willing to watch it recently as we have it recorded.  I'm definitely watching it tomorrow.

You also mentioned the Buddhist method.  I think Buddhism is closer to the truth than everything else.  Firstly, it correctly points out that "it is all mind".  In fact, all experience does indeed happen in the mind.

There are many forms of Buddhism, however, and the religion/philosophy itself seems healthier than most religions out there.  I have always admired it but I fear that even Buddhism has been corrupted throughout millennia... or far too many people have coloured it their own way - mainly with mysticism or esotericism.  Like the stories where Buddha meets Brahma or Buddha having a supernatural shine to his skin.

I admire the historical Buddha, though.  I have this idea that he was a remarkable human being who expressed Buddhism (his idea) in its purest form.  I'd like to think of him as a pragmatist and an excellent observer of reality who had a profound experience that changed him forever.  Suffering does indeed come from desire and he who is not concerned about what might become of him is truly liberated.
