What your reflection looks like the first time you look at it in the phase is priceless. It's otherworldly in appearance, often distorted, swirly, molecular at times...surreal. This look can persist in subsequent phase experiences. The reflection is seldom accurate and if it is, it may not be doing exactly what you perceive yourself to be doing... sometimes it can be absent!
Why is it important? Because it impacts on the novice as a strong indication that the laws of physics and the logic that we are so familiar with in the physical world don't necessarily apply. It is a strong indication that the metaphysical realm is a different kettle of fish.
I drew my reflection once:
This is another reality. One where you have more freedom and one that will challenge your understanding and what you call logic. It's a whole other game. Welcome to the phase.
THE PHASE = waking consciousness during sleep hybridisation at 40Hz of brainwave activity conducive to lucid dreaming and autoscopy.
I overcame my fear of looking in mirrors (in the phase) in a dream the other night. It was very funny. Everything about my face was normal except above the eyes. My eyebrows kept "playing tricks on me" - and I did several passes of the mirror and every time I looked back they'd done something different and mischevious, like dancing, being in different positions or being very bushy.
This very interesting. As you stated summerlander: It's otherworldly in appearance, often distorted, swirly, molecular at times...surreal. I have been wondering if ive been close to the phase, and i remember in one of my attempts, weather i was dreaming or actually in the phase, i don't know, but my reflection was swirly! Could this be proof that i was in the phase?
Knowledge is Everything! To know is to be conscious!
Know thyself!
Well, if you had full consciousness and knew full well that the reality before you was not physical - especially when the anomalies were so apparent to you (i.e. the critical faculty of the mind was operational) - then yes, you were in the phase.
In the phase, you know that your physical body is lying asleep and yet you feel like you are somewhere else and awake.
The phase is equivalent to OOBEs and lucid dreaming. Such state of mind has a lot more in common with waking experience than ordinary dreams where you are mindlessly absorbed by silly plots and experience a misplaced sense of identity.
